Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said that Israeli forces killed several fighters of “Hezbollah” in southern Lebanon, although the ceasefire between the two countries entered into force earlier that day, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
The presence of the militants in the area is in violation of the agreement, Hagari said in an address last night, adding that “any violation of the ceasefire will be met with fire”.
The cease-fire agreement, which came into effect early yesterday, calls for Hezbollah forces to withdraw behind the Litani River, about 30 km north of the Israeli-Lebanese border.
Israeli forces have also detained several suspects who approached areas in southern Lebanon where Israeli soldiers continue to be deployed, Hagari said.
Anyone who is armed will be killed or arrested there, the spokesman warned.
He again called on civilians who fled their homes amid the fighting to wait before returning to southern Lebanon.
Immediately before the ceasefire took effect, the Israeli military attacked about 180 Hezbollah targets, including an underground missile production facility about 1.5 km in area, Hagari said.
The Israeli military said it was Hezbollah's largest production facility for precision-guided missiles.
Israeli forces said they shot down a drone that was used for arms trafficking, Reuters reported, citing BTA. The drone entered Israel from Egypt.
Egyptian security sources said they were not aware of any such incident.
There were two similar cases in October. Israel then said it shot down two drones transferring weapons from Egyptian territory.
The Israeli military said during the war in the Gaza Strip that the Palestinian movement "Hamas" used tunnels under the border connecting the enclave with Egypt's Sinai Peninsula to traffic weapons.
However, Egypt says it destroyed the network of tunnels years ago and created a buffer zone and border fortifications to prevent traffic.
