Norway opens a center for amphibious operations against Russia in the Arctic - 1

A center for amphibious operations has been opened in northern Norway to strengthen countermeasures against Russia in the Arctic, writes Newsweek.

„An operational amphibious center has been established in Norway as part of the country's next step by NATO to strengthen its operations along Russia's border in the Arctic.“ - it says in the material.

The center located in Soreisa specializes in training American, British and Dutch contingents. It is specified that Norway does not have its own landing forces, but some of its special forces are based in this region.

„We must train together to defend Norway, the Nordic region and NATO in case of crisis and war,”, the publication quoted Norwegian Defense Minister Bjorn Arild Gram as saying.

Earlier the media reported that a number of NATO countries have agreed to establish a Northlink satellite network in the Arctic. The agreement has been signed by 13 countries, including Norway, Denmark, Canada, the US, Finland and Sweden.

As the author of the article notes, Norway has spent almost 16 billion kroner on building military bases and investing in military equipment to counter a Russian threat.
