South Korea's president apologizes for martial law and asks for forgiveness

Yoon Suk-yeol vows to take responsibility for his actions ahead of impeachment vote

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol se apologized in a televised address to the nation for his decision to impose martial law.

„I deeply apologize for my actions,” he said in a live televised address before taking a deep bow. Yoon Suk Yeol promised to take responsibility for his actions and not try to avoid punishment if it comes.

„I will not try to avoid political and legal responsibility for actions related to the declaration of martial law,” the president said.

He also stressed that he would not declare martial law again. “I will say it straight: there will be no such situation as a second martial law,”, he said. The President asked citizens for forgiveness for the anxiety and inconvenience caused.

The impeachment vote is expected on December 7 at 17:00 local time. The ruling party "Civic Power" controls 108 of the 300 seats in the South Korean parliament. To remove the president from power, 200 votes of the deputies are needed. 191 MPs made a motion to announce impeachment.
