< p>"The fall of the Syrian dictator Bashar Assad's regime is a defeat for Russia," Polish Deputy Minister of Defense Cezary Tomczyk said today, quoted by the Polish Press Agency (PAP), writes BTA.
"This is the defeat of Russia and another point of tension in the world that is being watched closely. This is another proof that Russia is a country of this axis of evil, which is doing everything to incite countries against the West, to cause global upheavals," Tomczyk said today in a comment on the situation in Syria.
He pointed out that Russia is intervening in many regions of the world, driven by its superpower ambitions, but its capabilities do not match those aspirations, except for its nuclear potential.
As a result, according to Tomczyk, Russia has been forced to disperse its armed forces and limit its involvement in other areas, focusing its attention on the Russian-Ukrainian front.
At the same time, he stated that the Ministry of National Defense of Poland is in contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is prepared for the possible need to evacuate Polish citizens from Syria.
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Szykorski says other dictators should learn that relying on outside patrons, especially one as authoritarian as today's Russia, instead of supporting their own nations, never ends well.
Shikorski expressed hope that the Assad regime will be replaced by a better, popularly supported government elected through national dialogue.
