Tino Krupala, co-chair of the far-right Alternative for Germany party, has questioned Germany's NATO membership, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

"A defense alliance must accept and respect the interests of all European countries - including Russia's interests," Krupala told the "Welt" newspaper in a comment published yesterday. "If NATO cannot guarantee this, Germany should think about how useful this alliance is for us," he added.

Krupa described his party's proposal for Germany to leave the European Union as a maximum demand and mentioned the idea of replacing the bloc with an "economic community and a community of [common] interests."

"Before leaving [the EU], a new basis will have to be clearly agreed. Incidentally, this also applies to NATO," he assured.

Regarding Russia's war in Ukraine, the AfD politician said that the German government must finally reach a stage where it wants to end the war.

"Russia has won this war. "Reality has caught up with those who claim they want to give Ukraine a chance to win the war," Krupala believes.

The AfD is currently in second place in national polls ahead of elections due in February. However, the country's established parties have ruled out cooperating with the far-right formation, which is under investigation by intelligence services as a suspected right-wing extremist group.
