Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico intends to hold talks with Putin on December 23 amid Vladimir Zelensky's refusal to extend gas transit through Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov neither confirmed nor denied the information.
"We will inform you about everything in a timely manner, we will not get ahead of events. We need to have some patience," the Russian president's press secretary told TASS.
Fico earlier indicated that Zelensky's decision to refuse to extend gas transit through Ukraine would lead Slovakia into a crisis. Russian gas transit through Ukraine is expected to stop on January 1, 2025, after the five-year contract expires.
Fico has headed the Slovak government since October 2023, having previously served as prime minister from 2006-2010 and 2012-2018. Putin met with Fico several times during the Slovak prime minister's previous terms, with their last meeting taking place in 2016.
