Ankara: Kurdish units in Syria must be disbanded immediately - 1

Turkey will do whatever is necessary to ensure its security if the new rulers in Syria cannot address its concerns about the Kurdish units in the Arab country, which Ankara views as terrorist groups.

This was stated by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in an interview with the French television "France 24", quoted by BNR.

Fidan explained that Ankara prefers that the new administration in Damascus address the problem in accordance with the territorial integrity, unity and sovereignty of Syria. According to him, the Kurdish People's Defense Units should be disbanded immediately. "If this does not happen, we must protect our own national security," the Foreign Minister emphasized. Asked if this included military action, Fidan replied: "Whatever is necessary".

Turkey considers the People's Protection Units, which are key players in the Washington-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, to be an extension of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), Reuters recalls.
