Israel has accused Pope Francis of "double standards" after the head of the Catholic Church condemned as "atrocity" an Israeli airstrike in Gaza that killed seven children from one family, BNR reported.
"The Pope's remarks are particularly disappointing because they have no connection to the true and factual context of Israel's fight against jihadist terrorism," the Israeli Foreign Ministry said in a statement. "Enough with the double standards and the focus on the Jewish state and its people", the ministry also wrote, quoted by Agence France-Presse.
According to the Gaza Strip's civil defense service, 10 people from one family were killed in the Israeli airstrike on Friday, 7 of whom were children.
"This is cruelty, this is not war," Pope Francis said of the attack. "I want to say it because it touches my heart," he added.
