Mikhail Kavelashvili sworn in as president of Georgia.

In the plenary hall of the parliament, Kavelashvili took an oath on the Bible and the Constitution of Georgia in a solemn atmosphere. The ceremony was also attended by members of the Kavelashvili family, members of parliament, representatives of the Georgian Orthodox Church and other religious denominations, heads of the Constitutional and Supreme Courts, the head of the Adjara government Tornike Rizhvadze, members of the Georgian government, as well as other officials and military personnel.

The former President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili has announced that she will leave the presidential palace and hand it over to the new president.

“I will leave here. I will come to you“, Zurabishvili said at a rally, addressing her supporters who gathered in front of the presidential palace in the morning.

She reiterated that the country should hold repeat parliamentary elections, as she believes that the vote on October 26 was falsified. Zurabishvili would continue to fight the government.

On December 14, presidential elections were held in the Georgian parliament. This was the first indirect election of the head of the republic. The electoral college, consisting of deputies, members of the Supreme Councils of Adjara and Abkhazia, and representatives of municipal authorities, voted. Kavelashvili, nominated by the ruling party "Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia", was the only candidate, and received 224 votes out of 300, thus becoming the sixth president of the republic.
