Two people were killed on Sunday in the Gaza Strip, amid the critical humanitarian situation after more than a year of war, in an armed robbery of a World Food Programme convoy, the UN organization reported, quoted by BTA.
In response, the Palestinian movement "Hamas" said it holds the organization responsible for the tragedy.
"A coordinated operation to bring in 40 trucks on behalf of humanitarian partners was the subject of an armed and violent robbery, resulting in the death of two people and the injury of several others," the organization said in a statement. For more than two weeks, almost all humanitarian aid shipments entering through southern and central Gaza have been subject to violence, looting and tragic deaths due to attacks and a lack of law enforcement along the convoy routes.
In response, the press service of the Hamas government in Gaza said that a "catastrophic mistake" on the part of the organization was responsible for the two deaths and "dozens of gunshot wounds".
"We hold it fully responsible and ask it not to violate the protocol for ensuring the safety of humanitarian convoys," the Palestinian movement said.
The Israeli army said it had intercepted two rockets fired at Israeli territory from the northern Gaza Strip. Sirens sounded in areas bordering the Palestinian territory.
On Saturday and Sunday, Israel already announced that it had been the target of fire from Gaza, with all shells and rockets either intercepted or falling in unpopulated areas.
Since October 6, the Israeli army has intensified its ground and air offensive in northern Gaza. According to the Israeli armed forces, their aim is to prevent "Hamas" fighters from regrouping.
