An Argentine court has ordered the arrest of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo.
This was announced by Argentine lawyer Dario Richarte, who requested an investigation into government officials in the Central American country for human rights violations.
“After two and a half years of investigation, the court issued an arrest warrant requesting the international search for Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, as well as about a dozen other individuals responsible for serious human rights violations“, he wrote in X .
The Argentine court considers that accusations of human rights violations are under universal jurisdiction, so it has the power to summon foreign leaders for questioning and issue orders for their detention. In September, an Argentine court issued a similar ruling against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. The government of the Bolivarian Republic called the Argentine court's ruling an attempt to replace the jurisdiction of international organizations.
