The New Year's Eve celebration will be different this time in Athens, because the residents of the Greek capital will enjoy the sparkle of fireworks as usual, but will not hear any thunder when they explode in the sky, reports the Greek television Mega, quoted by BTA.
„This is an initiative, (the preparation for) which began with the inauguration of the new municipal government (at the beginning of the year). This is the wish of the mayor (Haris Doukas) and all of us. These festive moments are moments of a lot of light and noise and songs, so (we want) them not to cause concern for domestic animals and for the animals that live in the city“, said the chairman of the Technopolis (Gazi) industrial museum and cultural center in Athens.
The technology is based on special chemical compounds that minimize the sound of pyrotechnics, while preserving the light and colors of traditional fireworks, the news site “Newspost“ specifies, referring to the websites of the companies that supply the innovative product.
In addition, the night sky in the city will be illuminated by hundreds of drones that will participate in a performance dedicated to the heritage of Athens and the New Year.
The main festive event will be in the central square “Syntagma“, where there will be a musical and theatrical performance, entitled “The Terrace of Time“, which with song, dance and humorous sketches will take attendees back to the history of Athens from 1945 to 2025. The celebration will be broadcast live on the Municipality of Athens' Facebook page and YouTube channel.
