Britain was hit by a new wave of snow, rain and flooding on Monday, severely disrupting road and rail traffic, with airports in the north of the country temporarily closing their runways, Reuters reported, quoted by News.bg.
The Met Office issued warnings for snow, ice and rain across wide parts of the country, with the Environment Agency warning of flooding in more than 150 places due to torrential rain and melting snow.
The floods and rain delayed or cancelled dozens of trains, and major roads in northern and central England were closed due to snowfall and flooding. Manchester Airport temporarily suspended take-offs and landings on Monday morning due to heavy snowfall, while Liverpool Airport took the same measure on Sunday. Although Manchester's runways are open, flight delays continue.
The Met Office said parts of Britain had experienced their coldest winter night of the season, with temperatures falling to -13.3°C in Scotland.
