Court decides fate of ousted South Korean president - 1

The ousted South Korean president Yun Suk-yeol will not attend the first impeachment hearing against him, local media reported, BTA reported.

Yoon will not attend the hearing for security reasons, Yonhap news agency reported, citing his lawyer.

On Tuesday, the Constitutional Court is expected to proceed with the merits of the impeachment trial against Yun, who issued a decree on December 3 declaring martial law, which, however, was short-lived.

The court will decide whether to confirm his impeachment or restore him to power.

The 64-year-old Yun is still at his residence, which is protected by high walls and guarded by dozens of guards from the presidential security service.

Hundreds of his supporters set up a tent camp in front of the entrance to the complex.

In mid-December, deputies removed Yun from office until further notice on charges of abuse of power and anti-state activities.
