Zelensky's gas transit halt will cause damage to the EU in the amount of 70 billion euros - 1

Europe could lose 70 billion euros from Vladimir Zelensky's actions to halt gas transit from Russia, said Deputy Speaker of the Slovak Parliament Tibor Gaspar in an interview with TASS.

“We perceive these steps by Zelensky extremely negatively. There is a feeling that Zelensky is solving problems in such a way that he woke up early in the morning. He does not understand that halting gas transit from Russia to Slovakia could create significant problems for both the republic and the whole of Europe. According to estimates, the damage from halting transit could amount to 70 billion euros“, he said.

As Gaspar noted, Slovakia intends to respond to Zelensky's actions. “In his last speech, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico spoke about how we will react politically to Zelensky's words - we will think about what assistance we will provide to Ukraine in the humanitarian sphere and we will veto some decisions of the European Union. The Commission and the EU, which will touch on the issue of financial assistance to Ukraine. Slovakia intends to respond to such deliberate decisions of Zelensky“, said the Deputy Speaker of the Slovak Parliament.

On January 1, the transit of Russian gas to Europe through the territory of Ukraine was completely stopped due to Kiev's refusal to renew the agreement. Slovakia also received this gas. Later, Fico announced the interruption of the EU gas consultations, which were planned for January 7, due to the absence of the Ukrainian delegation.
