John Bolton, former national security adviser to US President Donald Trump, said he expects that after four years of Trump's second term, the president will step down and normal elections will be held, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
The US Constitution allows a maximum of two terms for a president.
Bolton, a hardliner and long-time diplomat, was the White House security adviser in 2018 and 2019, but resigned after a dispute with Trump.
Bolton's comments came in response to a question on a talk show broadcast by German public broadcaster Aer De on Wednesday.
He further stated that the US constitution and institutions are strong and powerful and have enormous support.
He called Trump a "deviation" and predicted that he would do even more damage in his second term than in his first. But he is not Julius Caesar and is not one of those great dangers that threatened the Roman Republic in his time, Bolton said.
The United States is stronger than Donald Trump, he added.
