The US Department of Commerce sold 1,000 so-called golden cards in one day - a new form of permanent residence in the country for foreign investors. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick announced this in an interview with the All-In podcast.
“Yesterday I sold a thousand of them“, the minister said.
“There are 37 million people in the world who can buy this card. The president believes that we will be able to sell a million [of these cards“, added Lutnick. The price of one "golden card" is $ 5 million. Thus, the Department of Commerce managed to earn $ 5 billion.
Earlier, Trump said that a new form of residency in the US for foreign investors could be called a Trump card. The president and other US officials have said that the program, which could eventually lead to US citizenship, could be called a "golden card".
All proceeds from the sale of this card will be used to pay off the US national debt, which exceeds the astronomical amount of 36 trillion dollars. If the authorities have serious complaints about foreigners who bought these cards, their money will be returned, and these individuals will be deported abroad. The new card is intended to replace the permanent residency program for foreign investors, known as EB-5.
