Kremlin says Russian moratorium on strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure remains in effect - 1

The Kremlin said that Russia's moratorium on strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure remains in effect despite reports of ongoing Ukrainian attacks on Russian energy facilities, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Moscow was monitoring the situation and that Washington could do the same and draw its own conclusions.

Last week, in a telephone conversation, Russian President Vladimir Putin accepted US President Donald Trump's proposal to observe a 30-day ceasefire regarding energy facilities in Ukraine.

"There are no other orders from the "The president," Peskov said when asked whether Russia intends to maintain the moratorium or not. "Our armed forces are fulfilling all the conditions of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, but, of course, we are monitoring the situation very closely. Our American interlocutors are also able to monitor the situation and draw the appropriate conclusions," he added.

Kiev, which almost immediately accused Moscow of ignoring the moratorium, said that Russia would have to sign an official document to stop its own attacks - something that has not happened, Reuters notes.

For the fifth day now, fire brigade teams have been trying to put out a fire at an oil base in Russia's Krasnodar region, which was caused last week by a drone attack, for which authorities blamed Ukraine.

During the conversation with journalists, Peskov also stressed that Moscow and Washington had reached a common understanding on the need to conclude an agreement to end the war in Ukraine, but that there were still a number of different aspects that needed to be considered.

The Kremlin spokesman also commented on today's talks in Saudi Arabia between Russia and the United States, specifying that they are focused on technical issues, including the Black Sea grain deal, which also concerns shipping security in the region. Earlier today, delegations from Moscow and Washington began talks in Riyadh to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.

Russia and the United States will discuss the resumption of an agreement to ensure the safety of commercial shipping in the Black Sea, the Kremlin said, noting that key parts of a previous agreement, according to Moscow, have never been fulfilled.

Peskov said that Trump had suggested that the deal be discussed - a proposal to which the Russian president agreed. "It is primarily about shipping security", Peskov stressed when asked what the deal was about. "But if you remember the initiative in its previous form, it contained a fairly large number of obligations to our country that were not fulfilled last time. That is why this will be on the agenda today," he added.

Turkey and the United Nations helped broker the Black Sea Initiative (the so-called grain deal) - concluded in July 2022, which allowed ships carrying nearly 33 million metric tons of Ukrainian grain to safely pass through the Black Sea despite the war. Russia withdrew from the agreement in 2023, complaining that its own food and fertilizer exports were facing serious obstacles, although Russia currently has no serious problems with its grain shipments through the Black Sea, Reuters notes.
