Russian aviation authorities have temporarily suspended all flights to and from the airport in the city of Nadym, located in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. According to “Rosaviatsia“, the measure is in effect from 08:00 Moscow time and was introduced “in order to ensure the safety of civil aircraft“, reports the BBC, reports News.bg.
Such restrictions often accompany waves of Ukrainian drone attacks, although there are currently no official reports of incidents in Yamal.
Nadym is located in Russia's Arctic zone, in the northern part of the West Siberian Plain, on the shores of the Kara Sea. The city is about 2,000 kilometers by air from the border with Ukraine, making a direct attack unlikely unless it involves long-range drones or a preemptive measure based on intelligence.
The Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug is strategically important to Russia because of its energy infrastructure and natural gas production.
There have been no reports of damage or casualties so far, and it is unclear how long the restrictions will last.
