The Ukrainian army has stabilized the front line in the area of the city of Pokrovsk, where Russian forces have been conducting an offensive for months. This was announced by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrsky, quoted by Reuters, reports News.bg.
In a post on the social network Telegram, Syrsky specified that in some sections of the front, Ukrainian forces have regained tactical initiative.
Pokrovsk is an important logistics center in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk. Although surrounded on three sides by Russian forces, the city remains under Ukrainian control despite months of intense attacks.
If Russia manages to capture or completely surround Pokrovsk, it would facilitate achieving its strategic goal of seizing the entire Donetsk region, parts of which are still under Ukrainian control.
The front line around the city has remained largely unchanged since the beginning of the year, despite constant fighting.
