Ukraine is currently considering all possible formats for achieving peace, but Russia continues to block the most basic proposal - a 30-day ceasefire, reports the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, RBC-Ukraine reports.
According to Syrsky, he held a video conference with the Chairman of the Military Committee of the European Union, General Robert Briger. During the discussion, the Ukrainian commander and the European Supreme Allied Commander discussed:
- the importance of strengthening the EU initiative to supply Ukraine with ammunition and air defense systems
- their vision of the current front-line situation and reorganizing the management of their armed forces and moving to a corps structure
- proposals to optimize and expand cooperation in the training of Ukrainian soldiers.
"During the conversation, I emphasized that Ukraine strives for peace and is considering all possible options for achieving it. But Russia continues to block our main proposal - a 30-day ceasefire. "Therefore, the principled position and unity of our international partners are crucial to achieving a just and lasting peace," added Syrsky.
US Efforts to End the War
In recent months, the United States has been conducting separate negotiations with both Ukraine and Russia, seeking a path to ending the war. During the talks with Kiev, Washington proposed a complete ceasefire, which Ukraine supported. In contrast, Russia began to propose its own conditions, while repeatedly declaring fictitious “truces“, which it itself subsequently violated.
On May 7, US presidential envoy Keith Kellogg said that Ukraine had agreed to the creation of a demilitarized zone under joint control with Russia. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian presidential administration responded with its own position on the issue.
