Russian air defenses last night destroyed or intercepted 112 Ukrainian drones within three hours, most of which were over the central or southern regions of the country, the Russian Defense Ministry reported, quoted by Reuters, TASS and BTA.
A statement by the ministry, published on the Telegram application, said that this happened between 9:00 p.m. and midnight Moscow time (coincides with Bulgarian time - ed.).
„From 9:00 p.m. Moscow time on May 27 to 12:00 a.m. Moscow time on May 28, the air defense systems on duty destroyed and intercepted 112 Ukrainian aircraft-type drones - 59 over the territory of the Bryansk region, 19 over the territory of the Belgorod region, 13 over the territory of the Tula region, 10 over the territory of the Kursk region. Eight drones were shot down over the territory of the Oryol region and three over the territory of the Kaluga region, the statement said.
The ministry's statement did not mention downed drones in the region around Moscow, Reuters noted.
However, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, in a series of separate messages published in rapid succession on the Telegram messaging app, said that 18 Ukrainian drones aimed at the Russian capital had been destroyed.
Over the past week, Russia and Ukraine have fired a large number of missiles and drones at each other.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday that more than 900 shells of various types had been fired at targets in Ukraine over the past three days. Their number had decreased on Monday night and Tuesday morning.
