Students from the Faculty of Law gathered in front of the Presidency building in the Serbian capital Belgrade in a protest last night over the beating of their colleague the night before, BTA reported.
At around 1:30 a.m. local time on June 3, a student from the Faculty of Law at the University of Belgrade, Petar Zivkovic, was attacked by a masked group of men who hit him in the head, after which he was taken to the Emergency Center, the students from this faculty reported on their Instagram account.
This evening, students blocked traffic for about an hour in downtown Belgrade and called on President Aleksandar Vucic to schedule early parliamentary elections.
The students chanted the question "How long?", referring to the numerous attacks on their colleagues and citizens, which, in their words, are no longer incidents, but a system of attacks.
Under the windows of the building where the Serbian head of state works, the protesters sang Ceca Velickovic's song "Kukavitsa", which translates into Bulgarian as "Coward".
"You turned the state into organized crime, you took the people hostage, the law as a cover-up, you turned the truth into the enemy, healthcare into a market, universities into a target, and now you ask us what we want. We want early parliamentary elections," said one of the speakers at the protest.
After being attacked, student Petar Zivkovic said that what happened had to do with his participation in the anti-government protests.
He is the son of Gen. Bogolyub Zivkovic, who recently retired from the police. The former general commented on the attack on his son and said he was disappointed with the actions of the police, who did not respond to the scene of the accident, despite repeated calls, and did not act professionally.
Gen. Zivkovic was prematurely retired in January after Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic's New Year's address at the height of student protests in memory of the 16 people who died in Novi Sad after an incident on November 1 last year at the newly renovated train station.
Vucic then mentioned “some police generals who meet with actors“.
