Israel announced the expansion of its operation against Iran, and new explosions erupted in the Islamic country. According to media reports, the strikes hit targets in the western and northwestern parts of the country.

The explosions occurred in the cities of Khorramabad and Kermanshah, Fars news agency reported. Four facilities in Iran's East Azerbaijan province were also attacked.

In the city of Tabriz in northwestern Iran, the area around an oil refinery was hit, Mehr news agency reported.

Tasnim reported air defense operations over Tabriz, Khorramabad and Kermanshah. Four Israeli drones were shot down over Khorramabad, local authorities said.

At least two Iranians were killed and five were wounded in an attack on the city of Asadabad in western Iran.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office announced the expansion of the operation into Iranian territory, accusing Tehran of "continued aggression".

The strikes are being carried out "on dozens of key targets, including ballistic missile launchers, military bases and strategic infrastructure", the prime minister's office said.

Israeli Chiefs of Staff and Air Force Generals Eyal Zamir and Tomer Bar said the jets would begin attacking targets in Tehran "in accordance with regular plans".

Iraq extended a no-fly zone in its airspace until 15:00 UTC (18:00 Bulgarian time).

Syria, however, opened its airspace to civil aviation flights.

Syrian airlines said they would gradually resume flights, including to Kuwait, Doha and Sharjah.

Iran has threatened Britain, the United States and France that if they help Israel repel retaliatory attacks, their military facilities in the Middle East and Gulf countries will become targets of Iranian strikes.

Tehran has also threatened to attack ships in the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea.

Strikes against US military bases in the region could be Iran's next move, Fars news agency reported, citing a source close to the republic's military leadership.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Tehran "will burn" if the strikes against Israel continue.

US President Donald Trump told the Israeli prime minister that the US would not hinder the operation against Iran, but would not provide assistance either.
