Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who led the country from 2007 to 2012, was stripped of the Legion of Honor, the country's highest state award.
This was reported by the AFP agency, citing the official Journal Officiel.
As the agency notes, this decision was made due to the fact that the former president was sentenced to one year in prison on charges of influence peddling and pressure on the investigation.
At the end of 2024, the Court of Cassation, the highest court in the French judicial system, confirmed the verdict handed down by the Court of Appeal in 2023.
