At least one person was killed in Russian strikes on key cities in Donetsk region on the eastern front in Ukraine yesterday, and another in a drone attack in the north of the country, near the border with Russia, Ukrainian authorities reported, quoted by Reuters and BTA.
The Russian military said its forces had captured another village in their slow advance westward through Donetsk region. At the same time, from Kharkiv region, in northeastern Ukraine, reported that Russian troops were approaching the city of Kupyansk.
Russian forces carried out strikes on Slavyansk and Kramatorsk - two cities that Moscow is expected to attack as its troops advance west. Both cities have been under frequent attack since Russia's February 2022 invasion, Reuters notes.
The head of the Donetsk regional state administration, Vadim Filashkin, said one person had been killed and three injured in Slavyansk. Photos posted online showed buildings in ruins. He said four apartment buildings and 32 private houses had been damaged.
Photos from Kramatorsk, published by the city council, showed heavy damage to part of an apartment building. Authorities said at least one person was trapped under the rubble and several were injured.
A massive drone attack on the town of Nezhin, near the Russian border, killed one person and damaged local infrastructure.
The Russian Defense Ministry said its forces had captured the village of Zaporizhia, southwest of Pokrovsk, where Ukrainian forces have been holding off Russian attacks for months, Reuters added.
