„If I had to summarize this meeting briefly, I would say that I had an unpleasant feeling because many people are still trying to implement the old strategy for military action in Ukraine, which has completely failed over the past three years“.

This was stated by Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjarto in a comment on the working dinner of the NATO-Ukraine Council meeting at the level of foreign ministers in The Hague on Tuesday evening.

According to the diplomat, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered a "realistic speech" at the meeting in support of a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

Szijjártó admitted that he had a “good feeling“ when Rubio spoke at this meeting. “We heard a very realistic speech in which he really assessed the situation. And the most positive part of this speech, in my opinion, was that the Secretary of State reaffirmed the commitment of the United States to peace“, said the minister. He assured that the Hungarian government is also convinced of the need to seek a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine exclusively by peaceful means.

He explained that the strategy aimed at solving the Ukrainian problem by military means, which would only lead to “even greater entanglement of Europe in this conflict“. The minister also noted that Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga, who participated in the meeting, demanded the introduction of new sanctions against Russia and the supply of weapons to his country.

The Ukraine-NATO Council ministerial meeting over a working dinner was held on the first day of the NATO summit, which began on Tuesday in The Hague.
