The Yerevan court has ordered the arrest of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, leader of the opposition movement “Holy Struggle“, for two months.

This was reported to journalists by a member of the cleric's legal team.

“Unfortunately, our concerns were justified and the court decided to arrest Archbishop Bagrat for two months,“ said his lawyer Hovhannes Khudoyan, adding that the decision will be appealed to the Court of Appeals.

Earlier, security forces detained Galstanyan and several dozen of his associates on charges of preparing terrorist attacks and attempting to seize power.

On Tuesday evening Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan published a material on his Telegram channel, also posted on the pro-government portal Civic.am, containing information about an allegedly planned “seizure of power“. He called the plan “an attempted coup by scoundrels“.
