Slovakia will not support the European Union's new sanctions package against Russia at tomorrow's meeting and will ask for the vote to be postponed until its concerns about future natural gas supplies are addressed. This was stated by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, quoted by the "Reuters" agency, BTA reports.
Fico reiterated his country's position that the planned cessation of Russian gas imports from 2028 poses a serious risk to energy security. According to him, this could lead to supply shortages, a sharp increase in prices and possible financial losses related to arbitration over the violation of a long-term contract with "Gazprom".
Slovakia, which relies heavily on Russian natural gas, insists that these issues be clarified before agreeing to the new sanctions.
