Archbishop of the Armenian Apostolic Church Mikael Ajapakhyan has been arrested for two months, his lawyer Ara Zohrabyan said.

„The court granted the investigation's request and arrested Mikael Ajapakhyan for two months. The decision is illegal and unfounded.

The defense intends to appeal the decision,“ the lawyer said.
Clergymen and supporters of the archbishop gathered in front of the courthouse in Yerevan and expressed their dissatisfaction with the decision.

A criminal case has been opened against Ajapakhyan, he is accused of publicly calling for the seizure of power, violation of territorial integrity, denial of sovereignty and the forcible overthrow of the constitutional order. The cleric himself called these charges fabricated.
