Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian said that Israel tried to kill him, in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, the Times of Israel reports.
"They tried, yes. "They acted accordingly, but they failed," Pezeshkian said in response to Carlson's question about whether he believed Israel had tried to kill him.
Pezeshkian did not specify the date of the alleged assassination attempt, nor whether it occurred during Israel's 12-day air campaign against Iran last month.
When asked how he was certain there was an assassination attempt on him, he replied:
"Of course, it wasn't the United States that was behind the assassination attempt... It was Israel," he said in the interview.
"I was at a meeting... but thanks to the intelligence they had from the spies, they tried to bomb the area where we were holding this meeting," he stressed.
During the interview with Carlson, Pezeshkian also added that his country "has no problem“ to resume nuclear talks, provided that trust with the United States can be restored.
"We see no problem in re-entering the talks“, the Iranian president stressed.
"There is a condition... for restarting the talks. How will we trust the United States again? If we re-enter the talks, how can we know for sure that in the middle of the talks the Israeli regime will not be given permission to attack us again?“
