The spread of deliberately false information by the Democrats about Russian interference in the 2016 US election was the “crime of the century“ and created a serious threat to the United States, said US President Donald Trump.

“Obama himself fabricated these speculations about Russia. "Scoundrel Hillary, Sleepy Joe, and many others participated in this crime of the century!" Trump added on his Truth Social page, referring to former First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who was his rival in the 2016 presidential election, and the 46th US president, Joe Biden.

Trump added that there was "irrefutable evidence" of this. According to him, the Democrats have created a "serious threat" to the United States with their actions.

In recent days, Trump has repeatedly referred to a report released on July 18 by the office of US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. According to the report, after Republican Trump won the 2016 presidential election, the Obama administration fabricated intelligence that showed Russian interference in the election process. This was done with the aim of removing Trump from power, Gabbard noted.

As she explained, a few months before the election, American intelligence was unanimous: Russia had neither the intention nor the ability to interfere in the US election. However, in December 2016 (after Trump's victory), the Obama administration ordered a new report that contradicted previous assessments. Gabbard explained that the key intelligence conclusion that Russia did not influence the election results was removed and classified.

Gabbard assured that everyone involved in the fraud would be identified and held accountable.

In 2016, American intelligence agencies accused Russia of interfering in the American electoral process. The investigation into these alleged attempts to influence was led by special counsel Robert Mueller. On April 18, 2019 The Justice Department has released its final report, in which the special counsel admits that he found no collusion between Trump, who won the election, and Russia. Trump has repeatedly denied any improper contacts with Russian officials. Moscow has also dismissed allegations that it tried to influence the U.S. election as baseless.
