More than 33 people, including three children, were injured in a massive night attack by Russia against Kharkiv and six other Ukrainian regions, the State Emergency Service (GSChS) of Ukraine reported. A new type of ammunition was used in the attack, as well as a record number of “Shahed” drones, News.bg reports.
According to the Ukrainian prosecutor's office in Kharkiv, the strike was carried out with a modified UMPB-5 ammunition, which is significantly more powerful than the D-30s used so far. The warhead of this projectile weighs about 250 kilograms and has a significantly thicker metal body, which leads to severe damage and more serious injuries among the civilian population, experts specify.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine also confirmed data on over 20 wounded, including a 10-year-old girl. The strikes damaged residential buildings, garages and cars. Seven cars were completely burned down. Photos documenting the destruction were also published.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that a total of 107 air attack vehicles were used during the attack. Among them were four Iskander-K cruise missiles, 103 Shahed drones and other imitation drones. The strikes covered the Odessa, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Cherkasy and Zaporizhia regions.
Ukrainian air defenses managed to intercept 90 drones and one cruise missile. However, some of the strikes caused damage to civilian infrastructure and objects of public importance.
The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the attack, saying that it was directed at the Ukrainian military-industrial complex and energy facilities that serve the activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
