The Syrian state is committed to protecting the integrity of its territory and rejects attempts to divide the country as a result of Israeli interference.
„The dialogue between the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the General Intelligence Service of Syria with the Israeli representatives was frank and responsible. Our delegation categorically rejected the illegal Israeli military presence and attempts to use certain segments of Syrian society in projects to divide the country". This was stated by a diplomatic source in Damascus, commenting on the talks with the Israeli side, which took place this week in Paris with the mediation of the United States.
According to the source the meeting in Paris did not lead to any concrete agreements. "These were preliminary consultations aimed at reducing tensions in southern Syria and resuming communication channels in light of the ongoing military escalation since December last year," he stressed.
On July 25, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot met with the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Syrian transitional government, Asaad al-Shaibani, and the US Special Representative for the Middle East, Tom Barrack, in Paris. France and the US expressed support for the efforts of the new Syrian authorities "to ensure a political transition process as well as national reconciliation, particularly in northeastern Syria and in the province of As-Suwayda."
