Croatia has sent a Canadair firefighting aircraft to Albania for the second time this season, the Croatian Ministry of Defense announced, HINA reported, quoted by BTA.
The Croatian aircraft will assist in efforts to extinguish the fires in Albania. The plane's crew said that there is a serious danger to both the population and the environment in Albania and they would be happy to help with expertise and skills in controlling the fires and rescue operations.
"This is our second flight to Albania this season and each mission demonstrates how important solidarity and rapid response are in fighting forest fires", the plane's crew said.
Earlier today it was reported that three people were injured and about 2,000 people were evacuated near the southern Albanian town of Delvina.
Greece is also in flames for another day, reports the Greek public television ER, quoted by the Bulgarian National Radio. There are fires on the island of Kythira under the Peloponnese, in the region of Messinia, the island of Evia and near the city of Kozani.
The GR Alert early warning system was activated in some places to evacuate settlements in the affected areas.
The fire in Evia is currently out of control, with the regional governor calling for reinforcements from the air force. Two fire trucks were completely burned there. Four Greek firefighters were slightly injured.
At the same time, a new message from the SMS warning system was also heard in Kythira, calling on residents to move away to the village of Potamos.
Turkish authorities evacuated over 2,600 people due to the ongoing forest fires in the provinces of Sakarya, Bilecik, Afyonkarahisar, Izmir and Karabük, BNR reported.
The "Daily Sabah" notes that despite the difficult conditions caused by high temperatures, strong winds and dry weather, thousands of rescuers and volunteers are actively involved in firefighting operations.
According to official figures, more than 4,200 personnel, 45 aircraft and 1,236 ground vehicles are engaged in fighting the fires.
On Wednesday, 10 people died while fighting a fire in the rural area of Eskisehir, central Turkey - five forestry workers and five members of the Search and Rescue Organization.
