The Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recommended that Serbian citizens refrain from traveling to Croatia between August 1 and 10, Serbian national broadcaster RTS reported.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises citizens of the Republic of Serbia, if they are in Croatia during the specified period, to avoid gatherings and other public events that carry a risk of incidents," the ministry said in a statement.

The Croatian newspaper "Jutarni vijesti" notes that the warning is likely related to planned demonstrations during this period in connection with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Operation Storm.

A large military parade is planned in Zagreb on 29 and 31 July to mark the anniversary of the operation, which achieved a decisive victory in Croatia's war for independence from the former Yugoslavia between 1991 and 1995. With Operation Storm, Croatia regained the territories where in 1991 the Croatian Serbs proclaimed their state under the name Republika Srpska Krajina. The offensive began at 5 am on 4 August 1995. and within the next 84 hours, 10,400 square kilometers or 18.4 percent of Croatia's territory was liberated.

Serbia also marks the anniversary of the "suffering and persecution of the Serbian people in the criminal "Operation Storm".
