Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said today that everyone needs to be especially careful with nuclear rhetoric. This was Moscow's first official reaction to the statement of former US President Donald Trump, who announced that he had ordered the deployment of US nuclear submarines, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
However, Peskov downplayed the significance of these words, emphasizing that such submarines are on constant combat readiness anyway, even without political statements.
„US nuclear submarines are on combat readiness even without statements by politicians. "This is an ongoing process," Peskov said, adding that Moscow does not want to enter into a controversy with Trump on the subject.
On Friday, Donald Trump wrote on the social network "Truth Social" that he had ordered the repositioning of two American nuclear submarines in response to comments by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev regarding a potential nuclear conflict between Russia and the United States.
Regarding the upcoming visit of US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff to Moscow on August 6 and 7, Peskov did not rule out the possibility of a meeting between him and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
„We are always glad to see Mr. Witkoff in Moscow. "We consider the contacts with him important, meaningful and very useful," the Kremlin spokesman said.
On the issue of a possible meeting between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Peskov clarified that the Kremlin does not rule out such a scenario, but stressed that such a meeting must be preceded by serious preparation at the expert level.
