An auction is about to be held in the United States for the sale of the luxury yacht Amadea, confiscated from Russian oligarch Suleiman Kerimov. According to information from NBC News, the auction will take place on September 10, Focus reports.

The starting price of the vessel is expected to be around $ 325 million, with each bidder having to make a deposit of $ 10 million. The 100-meter-long superyacht is equipped with a swimming pool, gym and helipad, and can accommodate 16 passengers and 36 crew members.

From Fiji to San Diego: How Amadea Made It to the US

The Amadea was seized by Fijian authorities in April 2022 after entering the island nation's exclusive economic zone without permission. Local authorities subsequently received a request from the US Department of Justice to seize the vessel. On June 7, 2022, a Fijian court authorized the transfer of the yacht to US authorities.

After its transport to San Diego, the ship became the property of the US Marshals Service, which assumed responsibility for its storage and management.

$32 million in costs and blocking by another Russian oligarch

The US government spent about $32 million on maintenance, storage and transportation of the yacht from Fiji to California.

The legal proceedings were delayed due to attempts by Eduard Khudainatov, another Russian oligarch, to claim ownership of the yacht. According to US authorities, it is Khudainatov's actions that are responsible for the delay in the process.

Now the US is trying to make him bear some of the costs incurred.
