The Russian Foreign Ministry confirms that it will withdraw its consent for the operation of the Polish Consulate General in Kaliningrad from August 29, 2025.

This was stated in an interview with TASS by Alexei Klimov, Director of the Consular Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

„On July 11, our decision to close the Polish Consulate General in Kaliningrad from August 29 was communicated to the Polish side. This was a response to another reduction in the Russian diplomatic presence in this country and the cancellation by the Polish authorities of the consent for the functioning of the Russian Consulate General in Krakow,“ he said.

“We emphasize once again: Russian diplomacy invariably proceeds from the fact that no enemy attack on our country will remain without an appropriate response and consequences.“ Klimov noted that the closure of the Russian Consulate in Krakow has led to an increase in the workload of employees of the consular department of the Russian Embassy in Poland and the Russian Consulate General in Gdansk. He added that consular employees in Poland are effectively coping with their assigned functions.

“Russians who previously submitted passport applications or requests for documents at the now closed Russian Consulate General in Krakow can receive ready-made documents without prior registration at the consular department of the Russian Embassy in Poland,“ Klimov continued. “In addition, on issues related to consular actions, their compatriots have the right to contact the diplomatic missions and consular services of the Russian Federation outside Poland.“
