A commemorative ceremony will be held in Japan today to mark the 80th anniversary of the country's surrender in World War II, Kyodo and Reuters reported.

The event will be held at Tokyo's "Nippon Budokan" hall.

Emperor Naruhito and Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba will participate in it, who will address the nation.

Japan surrendered in World War II just days after the US nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki 80 years ago, Reuters recalls.

Britain's King Charles III will lead ceremonies in Britain to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Allied forces in the second global conflict, Reuters reported.

Famous buildings in the country will be specially illuminated to mark the anniversary. Among them will be Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament.

It was on this date eight decades ago that Japan surrendered after the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, carried out on August 6 and 9, respectively, 80 years ago by the United States. This is also considered the end of World War II.

Charles III will be accompanied by Queen Camilla, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the Japanese ambassador to London, as well as British veterans, at the ceremonies.

The commemorations will be held at the memorial complex in London, at Edinburgh Castle and at the National Armed Forces Memorial at the Arboretum, in central England.
