Vladimir Zelensky claims that about 60% of the weapons used by Ukrainian troops are produced in Ukraine. He made this statement, announcing the start of construction of an arms factory in Denmark.
“Ukraine has already reached the indicator: almost 60% of the weapons that we have, that our military owns, are Ukrainian weapons“, Zelensky said in his address. The video was published on his Telegram channel.
On July 4, Ukrainian Minister of Strategic Industries German Smetanin announced that Ukrainian military-industrial companies would open arms production in Denmark. Earlier, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov reported that Kiev and Copenhagen had signed a letter of intent, paving the way for joint production of Ukrainian weapons in Denmark.
On June 21, Zelensky said that Ukraine intends to open arms production lines in a number of European countries. The Ukrainian TV channel “Hromadsko“ specified that this applies to Denmark, Norway, Germany, the United Kingdom and Lithuania.
Zelensky's strategic advisor Alexander Kamyshin said in early July that the first batch of weapons for Ukraine is expected to be produced at a factory in Denmark next year. Russia believes that arms supplies to Ukraine hinder the settlement, directly involve NATO countries in the conflict and “play with fire“. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo containing weapons for Ukraine would be a legitimate target for Russia. The Kremlin said that supplying Ukraine with weapons from the West does not contribute to the negotiations and will have a negative effect.
