Israeli jets have launched massive airstrikes on the Yemeni capital Sanaa, residents said, hearing at least five loud explosions and seeing plumes of smoke rising from several locations, DPA reported, BTA reported.
According to the Houthi Al-Masirah TV, cited by Reuters, there were several killed and wounded.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sariyah said Yemeni air defenses had engaged Israeli jets. They "carried out an aggression against our country," he added, without giving details about the targets or casualties.
"Al-Masirah" reported that the strikes hit a government compound in the Al-Hazm neighborhood.
Since the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza broke out in October 2023, the Houthis, who are allies of Iran, have repeatedly fired rockets and drones at Israel, describing the attacks as an act of solidarity with Hamas.
Earlier this week, the Houthis said their prime minister and several ministers were killed in an Israeli strike. On Tuesday, the Israeli military said it had intercepted a missile fired from Yemen and shot down a Houthi drone.
Israeli Air Force fighter jets have struck Houthi regime targets in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, the military confirmed, quoted by the Jerusalem Post newspaper. The Israeli military (IDF) said the targets included Houthi military camps, the headquarters of their propaganda department and a fuel depot used for the regime's military operations.
According to the IDF, the strike on Sanaa was in response to recent Houthi attacks on Israel, in particular the firing of drones and surface-to-surface missiles at Israeli territory. According to the Arab media website "Al Arabi", the strike also targeted Houthi government offices, including the finance ministry and the defense ministry in central Sanaa. The Saudi newspaper "Al Hadath" reported that the attack hit six Houthi targets, the main one being a defense complex in the city center.
