At the height of the summer season, the safety and health of vacationers are taken care of in addition to lifeguards and medics. Medical assistance on the beach is absolutely free, and doctors are the first responders and help tourists.
Each managed beach must have a medical station open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., the same as lifeguards.
„In the doctor's bag, we should have mainly resuscitation medicines – adrenaline, atropine, sodium bicarbonate, calcium gluconate, glucose in diabetics who develop hypoglycemia. Separately, we have ventilators, we have a laryngoscope, with which, if necessary, we do intubation. We have systems, banks and everything necessary to provide first aid," explained Dr. Petya Kachuleva, a doctor with 20 years of experience at sea.
Although their job is primarily to provide resuscitation, medics also come across a variety of cases.
„ However, holidaymakers sometimes have complaints about the so-called summer viruses that affect both the upper respiratory tract and the gastrointestinal tract. They search us for high blood pressure values, sometimes we have had tourists with complaints of chest pain, and when further treatment is required, we call 112 so they can be directed to a medical facility,” explained Dr. Petya Kachuleva.
Usually vacationers first look for lifeguards when they need help.
„We make sure they feel good as much as possible, don't panic, inform the medical person and react in the fastest way, because every second counts. If necessary, we apply first aid to medical aid, but we are obliged to inform the medical person and call emergency help if necessary,” explained the rescuer Panayot Nedyalkov.
He noted that the wind from the east-southeast was contributing to the dead swell and warned people to be careful of currents in the sea.
„I appeal to all beachgoers to obey the flag signaling and the instructions of the lifeguards, to avoid direct sunlight, to consume more fluids and to use sunscreens,” advises Panayot Nedyalkov.
