Cases of COVID-19 are on the rise, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Health. “Coronaviruses dominate for now, the flu hasn't appeared yet. This will happen in November, and in December it will be an epidemic spread," said Prof. Todor Kantarjiev, former director of the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, quoted by bTV.
He explained that usually the flu comes from Europe, it starts in Great Britain and Scandinavia.
„Cases in our country increase when people living there return to see their relatives. But there is no problem in protecting ourselves with a vaccine. They can fight both the coronavirus and the flu in one day. The condition is that they are in two different hands. Maybe in two weeks”, specified Prof. Kantarjiev.
He commented that the coronaviruses are no longer so dangerous, but warned the elderly and those with immune deficiency to still get immunized.
„Viruses are more active in the autumn-winter period. A case of suspected tularemia was described last week. This is a dangerous disease, which in 1997 we had epidemics within two or three years - 380 cases were written and diagnosed of this disease, which started from Sofia, then Pernishko and spread. At the moment, it is almost all over the country, and the number of mice may increase, because because of the cold, they enter people's homes. They are the carriers of this disease, also known as the small plague. "The prevention is to wash the fruit from the cellars very well, and when peeling potatoes not to touch the eyes," Kantarjiev explained.
He added that this disease is treated with an antibiotic and recommended that specialists take it into account during examination, because it proceeds like pneumonia.
„The disease is characterized by an increase in lymph nodes, especially those on the neck and especially on the left side due to the anatomical features of the human body. The disease very often manifests itself as pneumonia in the fall, and colleagues should keep this in mind and think about this infection, Kantarjiev added.
