Manol Genov: There is no criminal procedure against Bulgaria for textile recycling

We have it as an ordinance for organizing this type of textile collection and we are waiting for the European directive. After that, we have 20 months to adapt all our legislation

The focus of the initiative "Let's Clean Bulgaria Together" this year is textiles. When asked whether Bulgaria is in a criminal procedure or will be in it because we have not organized textiles in such a way that they are processed properly, the Minister of Environment and Waters Manol Genov replied that there is absolutely no criminal procedure for this waste stream. "We have it as an ordinance for organizing this type of textile collection and we are waiting for the European directive. After that, we have 20 months to adapt all our legislation", the minister said.

He joined the bTV initiative "Let's Clean Bulgaria Together" and collected waste, together with all the other participants, in the Hunting Park in Sofia.

"We have emphasized the separate collection of waste. This idea of bTV is wonderful. We are your partner, so to speak. The message is to adolescents, to young people, to collect waste separately even when it becomes household waste, at home. All this waste, then collected separately, is a better quality raw material in the circular economy. By using a large amount of this waste in the circular economy, we save an enormous amount of primary resources for the production of a certain type of packaging,", the minister urged.

"Every year on this day we take stock and sometimes it makes me sad when we start bragging on this day how much waste we have collected, because this means that we pollute more. "The pride should not be that we do a lot, but rather that we have collected a little," Genov added.

"When we neglect nature, it always punishes us" was the message of the Minister of Environment, Water and Water.
