“The escalation of cases of sexual abuse of minors is an occasion to pay attention to the State's obligation to educate the younger generations in a spirit of morality, responsibility and respect for others. Legislative changes that strengthen the protection of children and minors will clearly show that society places their inviolability above all. This is not only a punitive, but also an educational measure - a signal that abuse against the most vulnerable is unacceptable and will be strictly sanctioned”. This is stated by Delyan Peevski, leader of the MRF and the PG of “MPS-New Beginning”, quoted by the party's press center.
“Many countries have already undertaken legislative changes that provide for more severe punishments and special protection for children and minors in sexual crimes. Bulgaria must join these efforts to ensure that the rights of children are fully protected and that our country stands firmly on the side of morality, family and human dignity”, the press release also says.
“Sexual abuse of minors and minors is one of the most serious crimes because it combines physical violence with deep psychological trauma. In many cases, these traumas are lifelong and lead to destroyed personalities, the inability to have a normal family and social life and severe health consequences. Strict and clear punishments, combined with prevention measures, have a strong deterrent effect and show society's intolerance of such acts”, the press release also says.
“The Criminal Code, contrary to good morals, healthy family values and conditions for prevention, accepts 14-year-olds as fully aware of the consequences of their actions, therefore “DPS-New Beginning” is introducing an amendment to the Criminal Code, thereby increasing this age to 16 years. With this, we are initiating a broad debate and legislative changes that will update the measures and protection for the children of Bulgaria, so that they grow up in a safe and responsible environment for their future, brought up in traditional family values”, the press release of “DPS-New Beginning” says.
