Taxis want to raise prices

Their argument is that they have invested 1,000 leva to meet the requirements for introducing the euro

Taxi drivers want an increase in fares, BNR reported.

Their argument is that they have invested 1,000 leva to meet the requirements for introducing the euro. By October 31, all cash registers in taxis must be able to issue a receipt with the price of the fare in leva and in euros.

About half of the taxis have already had their cash registers replaced, and they are also undergoing metrological control. "Metrological control is 35 leva, state fee, the set of stickers for each car is about 13-15 leva. These costs are borne by the drivers, the owners of the cars," said Krasimir Tsvetkov, chairman of the National Taxi Union.

According to the law on the introduction of the euro, by October 31, taxi machines must be able to issue cash receipts for the accepted payment in both currencies - in leva and euro, from January 1 to August 8, 2026 - in euro and leva, and after August 8 - only in euro. The cost of one car is about 1,000 leva. Therefore, an increase in the minimum tariffs is requested - daytime 1.74 leva, and nighttime - 2 leva.
