"I do not share the opinion that the incident with the beaten prosecutor Ivo Iliev resulted from what was said against the prosecution service," former Justice Minister Anton Stankov said in the program "Face to Face" on bTV.
"There have been other cases of injured magistrates. Usually this is related to specific actions in specific cases. A way of some kind of revenge, which I don't see what result it can lead to, especially against a prosecutor," Stankov commented.
According to him, there is certainly a motive related to his work and he ruled out the possibility of a domestic incident.
He expressed hope that the perpetrator would be caught.
The legitimacy of the Prosecutor General
„The problem is in the parliament - incompetent legislation. This law stipulates that the parliament undertakes to fulfill the legal requirements to elect a new SJC within a six-month period. And the parliament does nothing,“ said Stankov.
“The people's representatives, by virtue of the Constitution, represent not only those who elected them, but the entire people. Here my question is to the opposition - why don't you initiate a procedure for electing a new SJC and an inspectorate to the SJC. The procedure may be unsuccessful, but fulfill what you are obligated to do. This smacks of a collaboration in parliament between the ruling party and the opposition“, is the opinion of the former Minister of Justice.
According to him, the decisions are with resignations.
"The entire Supreme Judicial Council should resign, Borislav Sarafov should resign. Accordingly, the inspectorate should resign and stop functioning, so that the parliament realizes that it cannot be done this way. But this will not happen“, commented Anton Stankov.
