The United States sanctions against the Russian oil giant “Lukoil“ will not have a significant impact on Russia. This was stated by international analyst and lecturer Assoc. Prof. Iskren Ivanov in the “Interview in NOVA News“. According to him, the effect will be felt much more strongly in the European Union.
He pointed out that Russia relies on the support of “powerful economies“, which help it compensate for external pressure.
“There are countries that support the Russian Federation, which is why a dead end is occurring. There is no end in sight to the war in Ukraine. Economic and energy sanctions cannot influence the decision to wage war“, Ivanov believes.
Assoc. Prof. Ivanov also commented on the position of the US administration. He stressed that according to Donald Trump, the situation in Eastern Europe could escalate, which is why the US does not want to enter into a direct military conflict with Russia.
“This would be tantamount to World War III“, he added.
According to him, a possible military conflict between Europe and Russia would severely affect the European Union, but not the United States to such an extent.
“The ball is in NATO's hands. In my opinion, Russia will not stop provoking the Alliance“, Ivanov warned.
The analyst also outlined Washington's strategic line: “The US strategy is long-term – exhausting and suffocating Russia, so that at some point it becomes a starting point for redirecting American geopolitical influence towards China.“
