Ivaylo Shotev: Budget 2026 charges businesses at the expense of the state administration

Budget 2026 charges businesses at the expense of the state administration. This was stated in the program "From the Day" by Ivaylo Shotev - MP from We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria, member of the PP executive council and member of the economic committee in parliament.

When asked what the PP-DB is fighting for in this budget, Shotev replied: "It is important for people to know that there is an alternative. We have presented such an alternative and it is not the only one. Such an alternative was presented by both the colleague who will be after me, from the Institute for Market Economy, and by employers. For the first time, we see all employers in the country, as well as the large capital, and the IT sector to unite around the fact that the budget currently only does business, taxes working people, and does this at the expense of the state administration.

"Now, we have several problems with this. First, the distribution is not even. What we are proposing is that all sectors should be raised equally. What the majority that is currently in power is actually proposing that the police should be raised the most, at the expense of teachers. The funds are being raised, but some are more at the expense of others. They represent one caste over another. We have a different approach, namely that everyone should have the same increase," he said.

The People's Representative noted that the PP-DB is proposing specific measures: "We will make our proposals between the first and second reading. And they are rather to abolish this tax, which we believe is absolutely unnecessary. The tax on The dividend should be abolished. The maximum social security income may have to be adjusted, and this will hit every pocket of Bulgarian people. I truly believe that they have not yet realized what is happening.

"But after January, when they receive their pay slips, when we are part of the European Union, and when their salaries arrive, and they are different from what they expected, then we will have a completely different reaction. What we saw was that all the business organizations came out with one voice. They did not even go to the Tripartite. Because once again the state's bill has been transferred to the private sector. We are even observing an extreme distortion, in our opinion, of the role of the state. Currently, the state's participation is rising to 44%," Shotev also pointed out.

"Signals are being given to business that we will fight the prices, which are expensive in stores, with state-owned stores. We are talking about direct intervention in the Bulgarian economy. We are talking about the fact that two or three weeks ago the government entered a foreign asset, too. I am talking about "Lukoil", he added.
